National "What You Talkin' 'Bout, Willis" Month

As some of you know, I am starting the year participating in (queue the music) "The Ultimate Blog Challenge!" You can also participate by going to http://ultimateblogchallenge.com and join. The goal is to write 31 blogs in 31 days and they have to be 100 words or more long and G or PG rated.

I have to tell you, it is a bit exhausting.  Conventional logic is that you don't blog on the weekend because not as many people read on the weekends. As a help, the people running the challenge send out ideas every day for you to get ideas.  This is one of those ideas, though I'm sure my use is not necessarily in the spirit of its intended use. (snicker) And. Away. We. Go...

Did you know that the month of January is...
  • National Bath Safety Month
  • National Braille Literacy Month
  • National Hobby Month
  • Hot Tea Month
  • National Soup Month
What a weird little grouping of celebrations (?) with which to surround Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.  Who comes up with these? Does Congress vote on them?  Why are they not International Months? I realize that some countries are too poor to bathe, much less do it safely, but Braille Literacy is the kind of movement that is destined for Ms. Universe status. (Does anyone else think it is a bit pretentious to be naming a Ms. "Universe" as if we have all the possible competitors? Was Ms. Earth taken by Al Gore and his minions? I digress, remember digress = ramble) Braille Literacy is destined to be promoted to International status provided it can win the swimsuit competition, which seems unlikely, since the blind just don't care about visible things.

Some of these are easier to figure out than others as far as celebrations go. Is a cup of tea per day considered to be a 15 yard unsportsmanlike excessive celebration penalty, or is January the only month you can get away with it?

Why do we need these "months?" do we get time off from work or school?  Was it not enough to have a Day? If I were Peanut Butter & Jelly, I would be seriously ticked off to only have a day (April 2nd) while Soup gets a month. And just FYI, it shares April with National Pigs in a Blanket Day, I mean please! Coffee is breathing easy because August is National Coffee Month and there are no less than 14 Coffee type days and 2 coffee weeks. Now Tea is all up in arms because Irish Coffee Week and Irish Coffee Day are both in January! Tea has become the Rodney Dangerfield of the hot beverage world. It apparently doesn't even warrant a "National" status.

Since we focused on April, realize that April 30th is National Honesty Day!!! If there was ever an ideal that merits a month, nay a yearlong focus, it is honesty... Clearly Congress DOES get to vote on these.

My Hobby is to Safely Bathe while reading my Bible in Braille, eating some hearty Soup and making fun of Tea... what's Yours?

  2. All I read was something about a Snickers. After that, it was all, blah blah blah, PG, G, blah blah blah. Guess you can count me out of that competition I even dream in bad words. And I certainly would write bad words in Braille.
